Account & Data Deletion

Last Updated: July 25, 2026

This page explains how to delete your Kyndred account and what happens to your data. It applies to the Kyndred mobile app for iOS and Android.

How to delete your account

Account deletion is done inside the Kyndred app, from your own signed-in account. This protects you: only someone signed in to the account can delete it.

  1. Open the Kyndred app and sign in.
  2. Go to your Profile.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Under Account, tap Delete Account.
  5. Follow the confirmation steps.

If you cannot sign in

  • Forgotten password: use Forgot Password on the sign-in screen to reset it, then follow the steps above.
  • Still unable to access your account: email us at support@kyndred.net from the email address registered to the account, and we will help you complete the request. We may ask you to confirm ownership of the account before acting on the request, because we cannot delete an account on the word of an unverified sender.

What happens after you request deletion

  • For the first 30 days, your deletion request is pending. You can cancel it at any time during this period simply by signing back in to the app.
  • After 30 days, your profile is anonymized. The details listed under "What is deleted" below are removed from your profile and are no longer visible to anyone in the app.

Coming back to Kyndred later

Anonymization is not the same as erasure. So that you can return, we keep a private copy of those profile details together with a one-way hash of your email address. This copy is not visible to other users.

If you sign in again using the same email address, your profile is restored — your last name, biography, profile picture, birth name, and searchability setting all come back, and the retained copy is then erased. There is no time limit on this.

Your family memberships are not restored. To rejoin a family you would need to be invited back or apply to join, the same as any new member.

If you would prefer that this copy be erased rather than kept available for you to restore, email support@kyndred.net and we will remove it, subject to the records we are required to retain (see "What is retained, and why" below).

What is deleted

After the 30-day period, the following are removed from your profile and are no longer visible to anyone in the app:

  • Last name
  • Biography
  • Profile picture
  • Birth name
  • Searchability (your profile stops appearing in searches)

Your family memberships are deactivated and any Guardian roles are removed. Any invitations you sent or received that are still pending are cancelled.

What is retained, and why

Some information is kept after deletion. This is because Kyndred is a shared family service — your contributions form part of other family members' history — and because certain records must be preserved for legal compliance.

  • Your first name — retained so your past contributions remain attributable within the families you belonged to.
  • Family contributions (posts, photos, comments) — retained in anonymized form, attributed to your first name only. They remain part of the shared family record.
  • Family membership records — retained for content attribution and family history.
  • Guardian acceptance records, age-verification timestamps, date-of-birth change history, and records of accepted legal agreements — retained permanently for legal compliance and dispute resolution.
  • Purchase and transaction records — retained for accounting and tax compliance.
  • Security log (IP address and browser/device identifier) — retained for up to 24 months from the last time each address was seen, then automatically deleted. This log is not visible to you or to any other user, and is used only for security and legal compliance.
  • A private copy of your profile details (last name, biography, profile picture, birth name, searchability setting) and a one-way hash of your email address — retained together so that your account can be restored if you choose to return to Kyndred, as described above. The copy is not visible to other users, and both are erased the moment you restore your account. The hash cannot be used to recover your email address itself.
